Metal Engineering & Treatment Co., better known as METCO, was formed in 1962 as a partnership firm by 4 entrepreneurs who graduated in Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Howrah, West Bengal, India.

The firm was converted into a Private Limited Company in the year 1982 under the name & style of Metal Engineering & Treatment Co. Pvt. Ltd. registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956.

The firm was subsequently transformed into a Public Limited Company in the year 1996 under the name & style of Metal Engineering & Treatment Company Ltd. registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956.

From a very modest beginning in 1962, METCO, a Kolkata based independent organization specializing in various fields of engineering & technology, now holds the leading position in the field of structural bearing technology in India and neighbouring countries. METCO is prominent name in innovative design and manufacturing of various construction equipment, material handling equipment, process equipment and plants and other engineering products required by core sector industries.

METCO entered into the international market with its complete range of products of bridge bearing as late as 1970s and within a couple of year its export increased several folds owing to the combination of excellence in its research and development work, traditional craftsmanship and zeal executed by a well-trained workforce. METCO also remains in the  international market for design, manufacturing, supply, installation & commissioning of engineering equipment on turnkey basis or otherwise.
