The Pig Casting Machine (PCM) is basically an inclined chain conveyor having a set of overlapping moulds fixed between a pair of chain which moves over a set of stationary rollers. There is a set of sprockets on either side of the PCM one of which is driven (idle) and the other is driving sprocket. The drive unit consists of an AC or DC motor coupled to a multistage helical reduction gear box, the output shaft of which is connected through' coupling to the driving sprocket shaft supported at the ends by bearing.

The conveyor moves continuously when the hot metal is poured through the launder from ladle placed on ladle tilting stand at a speed synchronised with the hot metal pouring speed. The synchronised speed is achieved either by VVVF drive in case of AC systems or by thyristor drive in case of DC systems. The stationary guide rollers are fixed on a set of stringer beams and all the assemblies and sub-assemblies are supported by a system of fabricated technological structure.

The PCM is generally supplied complete with drive arrangement, chain links, guide rollers, sprocket assembly, moulds, ladle launder, pig knocking arrangement, motorised changeover, discharge chute, structures etc. Based on the requirement of production capacity the no. of strands is selected. Auxiliaries such as lime milk spraying and splashing system, cooling water system, mould heating system and grease lubrication system are also provided as the part of PCM Package.

There is an arrangement for tilting of ladle for pouring of molten metal into the moulds of PCM by means of Ladle tilting winch system or by hydraulic tilter. The same may also be supplied as a part of PCM, if required.

The solidified pigs are knocked out from the moulds of the PCM by a specially designed automatic hammering mechanism and the pigs are discharged through a tilting chute on the pig carrying cars/wagons which move on two parallel rail tracks. The movement of these cars is carried out by a set of winches with endless rope. The supply of pig cars and their movement system is also undertaken.
